does prettiness only come naturally?

Im not to sure about this. The reason this question popped into my head was because i went to a photo shoot the other day and got my hair and make up done proffesionally. I looked so much prettier afterwards and the photos, well i was really chuffed with them. I guess is what im trying to say is can anyone look pretty just with a little TLC and the right clothes or does it come mainly naturally and you can just choose to enhance it or not?

I know people say that everyones opinion is different but the majority think the same, look at Cheryl Cole you think that she is stunning or she isnt (hardly anyone can say that she is ugly because she just isnt (personally i don't see the big deal about her but, i do not believe she is ugly) you can just either know she your type or she isn't ). Some people out there are ugly but do they have a choice?

  1. Surely beauty or "prettiness" varies through the ages and is only defined by societal shifts. If you look back to pre-World War 1 Europe in advertisements for example, the presence of "bigger" women could be seen. This is also true if you travel further back in time when being curvy was a sign that you were healthy and well off as well as "good for carrying children" though I'm not sure that is the kind of attention women really want!
The point I'm trying to make is that beauty will vary throughout time and being pretty or attractive is relative to your generation. I mean if we look back at hair styles from the 70s and 80s we can only scratch our heads in utter confusion although we think that our generation is the shizzle.
I guess there are some "standards" that were are genetically wired to be attracted to but these are mainly reproductive, the rest is all very sheep-like behaviour!
(I know this was quite the rant but I just find this a fascinating topic!)
